Description

These beautiful encaustic tiles were manufactured by The Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Company between 1899-1930. Each tile measures 6" x 1.5" and feature a glaze of warm green with hues ranging from early spring green to deep moss. The back of each tile reads "Cambridge".

Condition: This tile is in good condition for age and use. Tiles show beautiful allover crazing, scuffs, chips and mortar residue.

History: The Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1889, a time when there were only nine other decorative tile makers in the United States. In 1889, the Cambridge Tile Manufacturing Company of Covington, Ohio donated, “thirty-five” art tiles to the Smithsonian and became “the only recorded donation by an American tile company to the national collections.”
