Cast iron firebox surround and summer cover screen used with a slate mantel. The cover features quatrefoil perforations in the center, surrounded by a border of less complex foils. Multiple tabs project from the rear of the surround for mounting. As the surround was once mounted to a slate mantel, some modifications will likely need to be made to attach to a non-masonry mantel. Both pieces in this set are coated in black paint and are in good condition.
Salvaged from a circa 1885 Italianate style house in Barnesville, Ohio, this surround and summer cover, along with other items from the house, are featured on Season 10, Episode 5, of the DIY Network show, "Salvage Dawgs".
