Icebox or Refrigerator Door, Antique B.A. Stevens, Wooden, 1894-1916

This wooden 5 panel walk-in ice box door was manufactured by B. A. Stevens of Toledo, Ohio between 1894-1918. The door features the manufacturer's nameplate, original single pull handle and 3 ornate hinges.

Condition: Good for age and use. Solid construction. The 3 upper panels on the back of the door show issues; the top panel is split in half, the 2 panels below are pushed in as they have separated from the rails and stiles. Also present are scuffs, scratches, dents, and dings throughout as expected with age and use.

History: This door was salvaged from Cascades Inn in Healing Springs, Virginia. This historic inn was comprised of a hotel built in 1850, with various renovations taking place in the early 1900's, and a motel built around the 1950's. During the civil war, the hotel was used as a hospital for sick soldiers. The Inn was also used as a storage location for various fixtures such as furniture and plumbing from the nearby Homestead resort.

Salvage History: The Cascades Inn and items from it are featured on Season 11, Episode 10, of the DIY Network show, "Salvage Dawgs".
