Huge 7 Foot Wide Half Moon Gable Vent, Wood, Historic Virginia Inn Salvage



This beautiful, 7 foot wide gable vent was salvaged from a Virginia inn with a rich history dating back to the Civil War. The wooden vent is 83.75" wide and 42.5" tall. It features a half round, or arched, shape with with 3 louvered panels. The large proportion and unique shape of this authentic gable vent makes it a perfect item to repurpose as a headboard, room divider or art piece. One side is painted white, with tan paint on the interior.

Condition: This vent is in good salvaged condition showing surface scuffs, scratches and paint loss as expected for age and use of the piece. The back of the piece has an added piece of wood, once used to as a possible frame or support for an air duct.

History: This vent was salvaged from Cascades Inn in Healing Springs, Virginia. This historic inn was comprised of a hotel built in 1850, with various renovations taking place in the early 1900's, and a motel built around the 1950's. During the civil war, the hotel was used as a hospital for sick soldiers. The Inn was also used as a storage location for various fixtures such as furniture and plumbing from the nearby Homestead resort.

The Cascades Inn and items from it are featured on Season 11, Episode 10, of the DIY Network show, "Salvage Dawgs".
