Pine mantel coated in white paint with molded panels on the legs and sides. This mantel has visually striking, highly detailed, gilded composite appliques throughout. A floral swag design graces the header of the mantel while urn and flower basket ornament the legs. Scrolling acanthus foliage with floral rosettes grace each paneled side of the piece.
When in place, this mantel surrounded a projecting chimney breast, as a result, the shelf has a 57 5/8"(W) x 12"(D) cutout along the rear. This piece is in good salvaged condition but will require light repair. Both rear sections of the shelf have split and will need securing. Shallow dents and marring are present along the front edge of the shelf and other projecting components. Paint has begun to chip in areas. With a fresh coat of paint and a little tlc, this stately mantel is sure to charm!
This mantel was salvaged from the Kean Estate, a 17,000 square-foot mansion sat atop the highest point in Livingston, New Jersey. This Georgian style stone mansion was the original home of 10-term U.S. Congressman Robert W. Kean, father of former Governor Thomas Kean. This sprawling residence features 14 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and 15 fireplaces. The Kean Estate, and items from it, is featured on Episode 6, Season 11, of the DIY Network Show, "Salvage Dawgs".
