Description
This stunning, 9 foot tall set of pocket doors were salvaged from the circa 1909 Lawson House in South Boston, Virginia. Together, the seven-panel doors stand just under 9 feet tall and 85 inches wide. They are made of quarter sawn oak veneer, showing beautiful flecks and rays on the face of the boards as a result of cutting along the growth rings. The solid wood doors have a natural stain on one side and are painted a warm brown on the opposite side.
Condition: Very good. Solid construction with surface scuffs, scratches as expected with age.
History: The doors were salvaged from the circa 1909 Lawson House in South Boston, Virginia. The home, a Queen Anne-style brick mansion, was built about 1900. Prior to salvage, attempts were made to rescue and preserve the property by the Halifax County Historical Society and Preservation Virginia.
