Midcentury Modern, Oak Prayer Booth 1964 Virginia Church Salvage, Prie Dieu



This oak praying booth, or "Prie-Dieu" booth, was salvaged from a church in Alexandria, Virginia. It features an upholstered seat and kneeler in an oak privacy booth with an adjustable book holder.

The body of the booth is of the midcentury modern style, with a simple shape and clean lines. Repeated vertical square rods surround the exterior of the booth, which is stained with a medium-dark tone, highlighting the gorgeous grain patterns of the oak.
Additional Details: With use of 2 pegs, the book holder can be removed or adjusted to 5 different heights from 30" to 36" (if measuring from the lower lip of the holder to the floor). The booth has a 24" access door on one side.

Condition: This piece is in good condition with minor surface scuffs and scratches as consistent with the age of the piece.

History: The booth was salvaged from the circa 1964 Church of the Resurrection in Alexandria, Virginia. This piece and other items from this church are featured on Season 10, Episode 4, of the DIY Network show, "Salvage Dawgs".
