General Fireproofing Company, of Youngstown Ohio was founded in 1902. They were a manufacturer of building materials. During the panic of 1907, when all building practically ceased, GF decided to direct their energies into their steel line of office furniture. They began  making their standardized steel desk in 1923. This is a "Mode-Maker" desk complete with 7 drawers, a pull-out work surface and arched aluminum legs.  Manufactured in the 1950's.  Please note the damage to laminate on top.  This desk was salvaged from the circa 1935 Peacock Laundry of Salem, Virginia. The laundry opened in 1935 and was in operation until 2000 when it merged with another laundry. The laundry is featured in season 8, episode 7 of the DiY network show "Salvage Dawgs".
