This antique school bell was salvaged from St. Michael's Catholic School of Pius Street, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The 32" bell, manufactured by the H.Y. Stuckstede BFG Co. in St. Louis, Missouri, includes the bell, wheel, stand, yolk and clapper.

Our shop experts sandblasted the bronze bell to reveal its original, golden tone and clear, raised lettering. The stand, yoke and wheel were reassembled and expertly repaired as needed. New spokes were added to the wheel and the stand was affixed to salvaged and refinished sections of wood beam. The original clapper was missing and a reproduction is now in place. The bell sounds an incredibly loud, clear tone!

Bell Markings/Dedication: The bell was dedicated to the school in 1903, as shown on raised lettering cast on the side of the bell, reading,
"H.Y Stucksted B.F. Company, St. Louis MO, St. Helena", with the verse: "To call the child to church in time I chime, When joy and mirth are on the wing I ring. When we lament a departed soul I toll, Donated Jan. 1st, 1903 by John and Theresa Sell in memory of their daughter Helen Departed".

The H.Y. Stuckstede B.F.G. Company of St. Louis manufactured bells under this name from 1892 -1931.

Condition: Good condition. All original parts except for wheel spokes, clapper and wood base. Expected surface scuffs and pitting due to oxidation. Sandblasting has removed the rust. Bell rocks and the clapper sounds a loud chime!
