Description

Own a piece of locomotive and coal mining history from the town of Clifton Forge, Virginia!
This heavy-duty industrial support Double-Strut was salvaged from the Chesapeake and Ohio (C & O) locomotive repair and maintenance facility in Clifton Forge, Virginia. In 1902 the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O) operated as a coal freight and passenger depot for their successful operations in the New River Gorge. This solid steel double support strut was once used in the maintenance facility and is available to be creatively repurposed! The strut could be used in your workshop or business to support a very heavy load or it could become a sturdy, authentic, industrial table or desk base.
The 27.75" tall support was once used to support a set of railroad tracks above a locomotive maintenance pit, allowing a mechanic to safely access the underside of an engine or railcar. Single and Double cast-steel struts were aligned in parallel to support the massive weight of a locomotive when over the pit.
