Wind turbine roof vent, also known as a whirlybird vent. Still spins! This galvanized steel industrial sized vent is made to extract hot air out of attics or high ceilings by capturing energy from wind in the fins of the turbine, in-turn, forcing hot air from inside, out. This vent was salvaged from a 7000 square-foot steam power plant, built in 1985, in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Prior to the 1970's, this plant provided heat and electricity for various hotels, cottages as well as the small commercial area in the town. This plant will be restored and converted to a pub and brewery. The Pinehurst steam plant is featured in season 8, episode 3 of the DIY Network show "Salvage Dawgs".
