Description

This 10.25 foot tall solid limestone column was reclaimed from an 1890's estate in Glenside, PA known as "Laverock Hill". This classic column, capital and base are composed of solid cast-limestone. The slightly tapered column is 108" (without capital and base). It measures 17" in diameter at the bottom, tapering to 15 ½" at the top. The base measures 20 ½" L x 20 1/2" W and has a height of 7 ¼". The capital measures 20 ½" L x 20 ½" W and has a height of 9".

Condition: Very good. Surface scuffs and natural patina are present: some moss and soil are embedded in the rough texture of the stone. No visible cracks, some minor chips at the corners of the capital and base, as well as chipped edges of the top and bottom of the column.

History: This column once supported a wooden portico structure at the Laverock Hill Estate in Glenside, Pennsylvania. The 1890's Georgian mansion, formerly known as "Falcon Hill", or the "Sims Estate" was remodeled in 1915 by architect Charles A. Platt. Items from this job are featured on Season 9, Episode 2 of the DIY Network show "Salvage Dawgs".
