Pocket Door Set, 148" H x 96"W, Victorian, Arched, New Jersey Mansion

This set of pocket doors was salvaged from the Kean Estate, a 17,000 square-foot mansion atop the highest point in Livingston, New Jersey, once home of the 10-term U.S. Congressman Robert W. Kean.

The pocket doors stand an impressive 147.5 inches tall with 25 lites in each. Though these doors are rectangular, they are designed to fit in an arched opening with the outer corner at the top of each door concealed. Each door has 15 lites in a rectangular pattern below 10 lites in an arched formation at the top of the door.

Condition: Good condition for age and use. These doors are coated in white finish with scuffing scratches and gouges throughout. The finish of the exterior side of the doors is weathered and flaky in areas. Moderate water damage is present along the bottoms of the exterior sides of each door from exposure to the elements over a long period. When in place, the doors were nailed together and used as fixed windows. As a result, we had to cut the doors through the center in order to separate and remove them. These cuts are uneven, additional cuts will need to be made to achieve a properly finished edge. This set has 1 cracked and 3 missing panes of glass. The right door is missing 2 rectangular panes and has 1 cracked pane, while the left is missing an upper pane from the arched section. A roughly 14 1/4" tall section at the foot of the right door has splintered off where it meets the left door.

History: This set was salvaged from the Kean Estate, a 17,000 square-foot mansion sat atop the highest point in Livingston, New Jersey. This Georgian style stone mansion was the original home of 10-term U.S. Congressman Robert W. Kean, father of former Governor Thomas Kean. This sprawling residence features 14 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and 15 fireplaces. The Kean Estate, and items from it, is featured on Episode 6, Season 11, of the DIY Network Show, "Salvage Dawgs".
