"Why Blend In?" by Judy Lochbrunner

Layers of color make up this "cross-section" of the garden in acrylic by local artist Judy Lochbrunner. The red tulip-floral shapes are interrupted by bits of yellow that finish at the top right with a bud and a bloom. These unexpected shapes and colors are evidence of the hand-painted collage added to the painting early in the process that are still visible. Much like the self-seeding plants that appear and delight with a colorful bloom that captures all the attention away from a carefully designed planting. And so the title,  "Why Blend In?" is a slight variation on the well known quote from Dr. Seuss: "Why fit in when you can stand out?".   - 24 x 1.5 x 20
