Description
Early hand wrought iron grab lock or blanket chest lock from the early 1800s. This lock would have been mounted on the inside of the front board of blanket chests, while the keeper is mounted inside the lid of the box. When closing the trunk, the lock automatically grabs the keeper. Best not to put your keys down inside the trunk as the key must be used to unlock the chest!
Lock measures 6" high overall x 3 3/8" wide.
Key is 3.5" long. Note, the bow is slightly twisted.
These locks were commonly found in German or Dutch style blanket chests. Smaller grab locks were often used for desks and boxes.
This lock is in excellent condition for its age and functions well. Matching key and keeper are included.
