Description
This ice box door was manufactured by B. A. Stevens of Toledo, Ohio between 1894-1918. The wooden walk-in refrigerator or freezer door features a window, the original hardware and the manufacturer's nameplate. The 3-panel door is equipped with a cast pivot latch, 3 ornate hinges on the front and a simple pull handle mounted on both sides.
Condition: Good condition for age and use. Solidly built with general overall paint loss, distressed, scuffing, scratches, dents and dings throughout. The front piece of glass has a small break in the lower left corner.
History: This door was salvaged from Cascades Inn in Healing Springs, Virginia. This historic inn was comprised of a hotel built in 1850, with various renovations taking place in the early 1900's, and a motel built around the 1950's. During the civil war, the hotel was used as a hospital for soldiers. The Inn was later used as a storage location for furniture and plumbing from the nearby Homestead resort.
