The heavy, hand-wrought iron tool was used in the early timber industry, used to pull long logs. Called a "Mule Grab" or "Log Wedge", the axe head section would be driven into the log. Then, additional chains were connected to a single tree pulled by bullocks or mule teams. 1940's-50's.
This heavy, hand wrought iron tool features 3 hinged sections, one with a skirted axe shaped end designed to swing within the middle link. Each end is threaded with the original bolt.
