Description

This 37 ¼" x 85 ¼" oak veneered fire door in jamb was salvaged from the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The door is constructed with a 90-minute cement core with a beautifully finished oak veneer. The door measures 35 ½" x 83 ½" in a jamb measuring 6 ¼" x 37 ¼" x 85 ¼" manufactured by The Maiman Company. The door has a semi-dark stain, highlighting the beautiful grain patterns of the oak veneer. Knob hardware has been removed from this door leaving holes for new hardware to be installed.
Condition: This door is in fair condition with damage along the edge of one side of the door where a long piece of wood has splintered. Cosmetic wear and scuffing is also present.
History: This door was salvaged from Wilson Hall, an American building on the campus of JMU, constructed as the centerpiece of the JMU Quad. The building is named for President Woodrow Wilson, a native of nearby Staunton, VA, and was dedicated on May 15, 1931. Wilson Hall initially served as the main administration building for the university and housed the president's office, the post office, classrooms (located on the second and third floors), and the first permanent auditorium on campus..
